Healthy dessert recipes let you have your cake and feel good too!

I'm so glad I've learned about healthy dessert recipes! Eating dessert is an important part of my day. Especially since having children, I find myself looking forward to it - it's a comforting treat at the end of a hectic day.

However, as all you parents know, eating sweets in front of my kids (or eating it within ten miles of my kids) means that they want some too. I try to limit their sugar intake, which meant that for a while I was going without dessert myself.

Happily, I found another solution - one that not only allows me to enjoy sweets myself AND preserves my image of myself as a competent parent but also fills my children up with healthy food! The trick: use healthy dessert recipes and make treats that are as nutritious as they are delicious!

When I first discovered this concept, I knew of only one healthy dessert recipe: for a wonderful banana-cottage-cheese-tofu pie. It's delicious - just sweet enough to seem indulgent, filled with tasty healthy ingredients. I made it regularly for months. Sometimes it was the only substantial thing my toddler ate all day, which was fine with me. I knew that he was getting some protein, dairy and fruit - without added sugar or colouring or other toddler-crazing stuff.

I've since collected lots of healthy, delicious recipes. Some of the fruit recipes have no added sweetener at all. Others are flavoured with honey or maple syrup (much less unhealthy than refined sugar!)

Here are some of my favourites!

Looking for a refreshing light dessert? Try Cream Cheese Yogurt Pie. It's especially delicious topped with fresh or frozen fruit.

For a comforting fall or winter treat, choose this wonderful Warm Fruit Crisp. You can use whatever fresh or frozen fruit you have on hand. (I like it with a mix of raspberries and blueberries!)

This rich Carob Pie needs no pie crust! It's especially decadent topped with whipped cream.
