Food Processor Pie Crust

Until I found this easy food processor pie crust recipe, I didn't make pies! I always thought that making pastry was mysterious and very difficult. I was wrong!

food processor pie crust

It's as simple as putting a few ingredients into the food processor, blending them, putting the mixture into the pie plate, and patting it down. That's all!

Most importantly, this makes a pie crust that is light and flaky and delicious! My family was surprised and impressed. (So was I!)

1 1/4 cup/310 mL unbleached white flour

2 Tbsp/30 mL sugar

1/4 cup/60 mL butter, softened

2 Tbsp/30 mL cold water

2 tsp/10 mL vinegar

Get out a pie plate.

Put the flour and sugar into the food processor.
Pulse until mixed.
Add the butter, water and vinegar.
Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
If necessary, add more water, a tablespoon at a time, and continue pulsing until you reach the desired texture.

Transfer the mixture to a pie plate.
Spread the crumbs evenly over the bottom and sides of the plate, and pat them firmly into place.

If you need an unbaked pie crust, you're done! The pie crust is ready to be filled.

If you need a baked pie crust, preheat the oven to 375F/190C.

Bake the pie crust for about 15 minutes, or until it is golden brown around the edges.
Let it cool, and then fill it.
