Sauce Recipes:
Dressings, Dips, Dessert Sauces and Condiments

Having a supply of good sauce recipes is important. Sometimes all you need to transform a meal from "good" to "great" is the right sauce.

A good sauce adds flavor and visual appeal to your dishes.

Of course, I used to think that sauces came in jars or cans from the grocery store. Once again, I was wrong! Learning to make my own sauces has been a wonderful experience.

Why make homemade sauces?

Homemade sauce has lots of advantages over processed, store-bought sauce.

  • It's tastier.
  • It's healthier.
  • It's more economical.
  • You can make just the amount you need.
  • It's fresher. Make a new batch whenever you need it!

All of the sauce recipes here are quick and easy to whip up.

Most use simple ingredients that you probably have in your kitchen right now.

Please note: many of these sauce recipes require the use of a blender.

Condiments

Condiments add flavor, color and "zing" to what otherwise might be ordinary meals.

  • Barbecue Sauce is a necessity if you are doing any grilling. It's also an important ingredient in many recipes.

  • Are you cooking a roast turkey for a special holiday meal? Impress yourself by making your own Cranberry Sauce. It doesn't take much more time than opening a can of prepared cranberry sauce!

  • I don't know about you, but I think that Mayonnaise is one of those things that just has to be fresh. If you make your own, you'll know that it is!

  • Planning to have fish sticks for supper? Don't forget the Tartar Sauce!

Dips and Spreads

All of these are delicious on crackers, pita bread or raw vegetables. Some of them can even be used as sandwich fillings!

  • Beet and Cream Cheese Dip is pink and pretty! (It tastes great too!)

  • Black Bean Hummus is great on crackers or in a sandwich.

  • Chickpea Hummus is a traditional favorite. You can used canned chickpeas, or soak and cook your own for a very economical snack or lunch.

  • Guacamole is a great dip for tortilla chips. It's also great in Tacos and Burritos. Some people like to put it on Hamburgers.

  • Spinach-Cream Cheese Dip has a beautiful dark green color, and it tastes great!

  • Tzatziki is the Greek yogurt dip often served with pita bread and raw vegetables. I love it!

  • Vegetable Pâté is delicious on crackers!

  • You can make White Bean Dip as thick or thin as you choose. Make it thick and use it as a dip for raw veggies, or thin it and drizzle it over steamed veggies.

Dessert Sauces

  • Is there a better simple dessert than a bowl of vanilla ice cream smothered in Hot Fudge Sauce? I can't think of one!

All Purpose Dressing

Are you tempted to buy storebought sauces because you just don't have time to make your own? Make a batch of "The Only Dressing", put it in the fridge, and use it whenever you need a dip, a dressing or a marinade. The recipe is in "A Day of Blender Recipes".
